DOCUMENTING DIVERSITY: PROJECT SURVEY AREAS
Much of the research, conservation, and training conducted by the Philippine Mammal Project has been based on field surveys of mammals, conducted with standardized methodology and thoroughly documented with detailed field notes. The surveys were conducted in cooperation with and permits from the Philippine Department of Natural Resources, through the Biodiversity Management Bureau and its predecessor, the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau, in collaboration with organizations and agencies throughout the Philippines and some international organizations.
From 1981 to 1986, the project was based at the University of Michigan; from 1987 to 1988, at the US National Museum of Natural History (which is part of the Smithsonian Institution), and from 1988 to the present at the Field Museum of Natural History. The following is a list of the locations of the surveys conducted by the project each year; their general locations are shown on the map below. For details about individual survey locations, check the list of publications included under “Research” in this website.
